The Violations of Women's Rights in the Middle East and Africa caused by Terrorist Organizations
Equal rights are an issue of global importance, especially regarding women. And yet, these rights are implemented to very different extents worldwide. Some consider that “no country provides safety for women, considers their health as important as a man’s, has the same freedom as men for women or has equal representation in schools and/or their workplaces, meaning all countries lack gender equality” (Peddicord, 2024). The countries that are characterized by discriminatory tendencies or unequal rights to women tend to be those located in the Middle East and Africa. (Gender Equality by Country 2025, n.d.). This can be due to a variety of factors, including the laws of such countries promoting violence and discrimination against this gender, which is also often influenced and worsened by terrorist organizations. In fact, “laws in 15 countries within the Middle East and Africa specifically limit women's rights based on the consent of their husbands.” (Little & Levitt, 2023) The lack of opportunities for women not only affects a large percentage of the population, often leading to illiteracy (10 of the Worst Countries for Women's Rights, 2025), but it also causes an overall decrease in their satisfaction and quality of life. This debate will pave the way for multilateral agreements and beneficial solutions for this issue in these regions.
