Superhero Impact on Civilization
Superheroes have been a source of inspiration and hope for millions across the world. They fight crime, do acts of public service, and demonstrate courage and seemingly bottomless kindness along their careers. Additionally, they have proved effective in generating a rapid response to disasters or crises that governmental authorities and everyday civilians aren't able to attend to as efficiently by themselves. Overall, this evidence seems to indicate that superheroes have been beneficial for civilization as a whole.
Nonetheless, there are many factors that bring about the question of how legitimate and necessary it is for these individuals to be carrying out their 'heroic' acts. Their actions, in many cases, tend to cause mass infrastructure destruction, they undermine the authority of governments and international organizations, as well as escalate conflicts in their efforts to solve them. All this... And do they ever consider international law in the process? Regardless, they are never held accountable for their actions.
Overall, whilst superheroes might cause a positive impact in society, their lack of public accountability brings into question to what extent they can be considered an asset for the world to consider in case of danger.
Since our main concern is the independence and lack of supervision of superheroes, it should be noted that our priority is to discuss whether the world should maintain its superhero allies, and to what extent laws should be altered so that they may be held liable and lose their current political power should the situation warrant it. Based in a world where the 'Marvel' superheroes are active, this committee intends to spark dialogue between the superheroes and governments, including those that may feel undermined or even helpless.
**Note, some Marvel knowledge is required to properly engage in this committee.
